NUON × EWF. Next-level billing.

Migrating to the Thüga Abrechnungsplattform (TAP) is a major undertaking in the German energy sector: replacing legacy billing and support systems with a standardized, cloud-based backbone involves complex data integration, numerous interfaces and considerable organizational transformation.

Migration to TAP: enabling scalable, efficient utility operations

As advisory and transformation-steering partner for Energie Waldeck‑Frankenberg GmbH (EWF), NUON supports the establishment of governance, planning and operational readiness required to embark on this journey with confidence.

EWF has engaged NUON to guide its transition onto the TAP. TAP provides EWF — in line with other community member utilities — a standardized, future-proof platform designed to drive billing, market roles and customer engagement.

The goal: consistent service quality, reduced complexity, faster response to new business models and full readiness for the next phase of the energy transition.

Programme Office & Governance Framework

Defined and set up the central program office (including roles, responsibilities and decision forums) and established the governance model for the transformation, ensuring aligned decision-rights and escalation paths from day one. A comprehensive reporting structure was implemented to secure end-to-end transparency of the overall project, driving regular updates up to the Executive Board level.

Integrated Planning & Delivery Tracking

Developed an end-to-end roadmap covering all workstreams (architecture, processes, migration, change, testing), linked key milestones and dependencies, and set up tracking for time, budget, scope and resources. With the platform being built alongside the migration, NUON and EWF work together to refine internal plans, adapt timelines for resource constraints and ensure post-Go-Live operational readiness.

Risk, Issue & Escalation Management

Implemented a structured risk-and-issue framework addressing not only immediate threats but also secondary implications arising from the TAP migration context for EWF. Escalation criteria are defined so that risks and issues reach the appropriate governance level in good time.

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication Management

Developed a tailored approach to internal and external stakeholder management to create a change and communication plan tailored to EWF needs. Acting as the interface, NUON ensures constant updates and collaboration with marketing, HR and other concerned departments to facilitate a holistic transformation with the maximum acceptance and enablement of EWF employees.

Enabling tomorrow’s energy ecosystem.

Business Outcomes. Business Outcomes. Business Outcomes. Business Outcomes. Business Outcomes. Business Outcomes. Business Outcomes. Business Outcomes. Business Outcomes. Business Outcomes.

Through its partnership with NUON, EWF has benefitted from rigorous program orchestration: NUON ensures that all workstreams are aligned, timelines are adhered to, and nothing falls through the cracks.

This comprehensive oversight has significantly increased organizational confidence as the migration onto the TAP progresses. With execution now under way, EWF is well positioned to convert this foundation into tangible business value - including scalable operations, cost efficiency and enhanced market agility.

„With NUON, we have a partner who understands both the program and our organization — and acts fully in our interests, helping us move forward exactly where it matters.“

– Nicole Dersch, EWF Project Lead & Division Manager IT & Shared Services, EWF

Outlook. Outlook. Outlook. Outlook. Outlook. Outlook. Outlook. Outlook. Outlook. Outlook.

In the upcoming phase, the focus will shift to data migration, process enablement and organisational readiness. This phase includes several migration cycles to safeguard data quality, extensive testing, and the rollout of new digital processes spanning billing, market communication and accounting.

Alongside the technical transition, employees will be supported and trained to ensure they feel confident operating the new system.

The objective is not only a smooth Go-Live in early 2027, but also long-term adoption and full integration of TAP into everyday business operations. With NUON at the helm, strong governance, continuous communication and collective commitment across all departments, EWF will secure a modern, scalable and efficient platform prepared for the future energy market.
